When you work for CFI as an over-the-road (OTR) driver — a job sometimes referred to as long-haul trucking — you can expect a life of adventure on the open road. It’s a lifestyle that does require you to be away from home, but in exchange, it gives you the freedom to explore the far reaches of our country while also making a great living.

FOR VETERANS WHO DROVE IN THE MILITARY: After you earn your CDL, we’ll start you right away on the experienced driver pay scale. Learn more about Military Opportunities.

Solo owner operators will receive a $0.03 per mile bonus on all miles in excess of 11,000 miles driven in a month. Owner operator teams will earn $0.08 per mile on all miles in excess of 18,000 miles driven by the team in a month. Learn more about Owner Operator opportunities.

If you need to learn the trade, we’ll pay for your tuition and room and board at a qualified driving school where you can obtain your commercial driver’s license (CDL). And if you recently paid to earn your CDL, we’ll reimburse you up to $4,000. Learn more about being a Student Driver.

MILITARY/VETERAN BONUS FOR NEW DRIVERS: If you’re a current or former member of the U.S. military, you can receive up to $1,000 per month in GI Bill benefits during your apprenticeship year. Learn more about Military Opportunities.

Additional Pay

Pay for common scenarios

Stop-offs: $35 per stop (not including first pickup and final stop).

Canadian border: Earn an extra $25 per loaded crossing.

Certain ZIP codes: An extra $50 for deliveries to or from certain zip codes mostly in New York City and Long Island.

Cartage and other local: For trips shorter than 100 miles, earn your mileage rate plus an extra $20 per load.

Layovers: After 48 hours, earn $75 per 24 hours of layover time.

Noncustomary work: An extra $17.50 per hour for assignments outside normal scope of work that don’t fall into other additional-pay categories.

Bonuses

Holiday bonus: Earn an extra $60 per day for working on New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve or Christmas.

Northeast bonus: Earn an extra $0.05 per mile driving in Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Virginia.

HAZMAT bonus: Earn an extra $0.03 per mile while carrying placarded HAZMAT loads.

Performance-based bonuses: Bonuses for outstanding achievements related to safe driving, mileage, productivity and more for solo, regional, team or dedicated drivers finished with training.
